Harrisonburg, VA, Lodge, with the help of the Virginia Elks Association’s Safety Glasses to School Students Program, do- nated 700 pairs of safety glasses to the Massanutten Technical Center, which pro- vides vocational and technical training to public high school students and adults in the City of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County. The Safety Glasses to School Stu- dents Program is one of the Virginia Elks Association’s state major projects. Pictured with ER Roger Monger (left) is Massanutten Technical Center Director W. Bremerton, WA, Lodge held a solemn Memorial Service to remember the victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks. During the ceremony, the lodge displayed a pair of steel beams from the World Trade Center. Lodge members honored 15 outstanding active and retired first responders from seven emergency response organizations during the ceremony and presented each of them with a certificate in thanks for their service. Greater Spokane, WA, Lodge members attended Court of Honor Ceremonies for new Eagle Scouts Drew Brown, of Boy Scout Troop No. 408, and Sean Lyonnais, of Boy Scout Troop No. 258, and presented each of them with a US flag. Brown’s Eagle Scout Project consisted of building a memorial at Central Valley High School for a graduate of the school who lost his life in Iraq. For his Eagle Scout Project, Lyonnais built a greenhouse for the Hutton Settlement Children’s Home, which provides a stable home for children in need of foster care. Sherman, TX, Lodge donated $100 worth of school supplies to Crutchfield Elementary School to be distributed to needy children.


Loudoun, VA, Lodge inaugurated its new lodge building with a celebration

that featured a meal, live musical entertainment, and dancing. More than 150 members and guests at- tended the celebration.


Martinsville, VA, Lodge awarded $2,500 scholarships to students Kenzie Campbell and Jessica Fulcher. In other news, the lodge, with the

Pulaski, VA, Lodge held a Zumba Dance Night fund-raiser, which 30 people attended, and raised $400 for Relay for Life, which raises money for the American Cancer Society. In other news, the lodge donated $100 to Sea Scouts Ship No. 557. Lodge members also erected a tent and joined the scouts at a collection site where they collected dozens of worn and damaged US flags to be retired at a later ceremony.


Winchester, VA, Lodge members attended the Unveiling Ceremony for the first phase of the Flight 93 Memorial in Shanksville, PA, and paid tribute to the victims of the terrorist attacks of September 11 and especially to the passengers of United Flight 93 for their heroic actions in bringing the plane down before it could be used as a weapon.


Fond du Lac, WI, Lodge members gave dictionaries to 84 third graders at the Friendship Learning Center, a public elementary school. ■
