Okmulgee, OK, Lodge donated $500 to the 15th annual Okmulgee Charity Trail Ride, which was a fund-raiser for Prevent Blindness Oklahoma, a charity that offers free eye checkups to students across the state. In other news, the lodge provided recommendations for teenagers Seth Baldridge, Chelsea Knobloch, and Cody Stogner so that they could attend the weeklong Cadet Lawman Academy, a camp that exposes students to the day-to-day activities of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and other law enforcement agencies.


Newport, OR, Lodge members honored Newport Intermediate School fifth graders Jam Gonzales and Desiree Hays in a ceremony at the lodge for winning first and second place, respectively, in the Oregon State Elks Association’s Eye Injury Prevention Poster Contest. Lodge members awarded Jam a $75 savings bond, a $100 savings bond from the Oregon Northwest District, and a $300 savings bond from the Oregon State Elks Association for finishing first in the local, district, and state contests. Lodge members awarded Desiree a $50 savings bond and presented her with bonds worth $75 and $200 from the district and the state association, respectively, for finishing second in all three contests. Lodge members also presented each of the winners with two plaques: one from the district and one from the state association. Salem, OR, Lodge members, with the help of a $2,000 ENF Promise Grant, treated 31 children from the Boys and Girls Club of Salem, Marion, and Polk

Counties to a ride on the Riverfront Carousel, which is a classic-style, hand-carved carousel. Following the carousel ride, lodge members treated the children to a lunch ride on the Willamette Queen, a steam-powered riverboat that operates on the Willamette River.


Burlington, VT, Lodge members completed a yearlong project of building a cabin for 16 campers and four staff at Camp Ta-Kum-Ta, a camp for children with cancer that is sup- ported by the state major project. The lodge raised more than $27,000 in donations, along with a large amount of donated materials and labor, to complete the cabin. The lodge do- nated the $5,000 that remained in the fund after the cabin was completed to the camp.
