Walnut Creek, CA, Lodge hosted a Court of Honor Ceremony for new Eagle Scout Kyle Hendricks, of lodge- sponsored Boy Scout Troop No. 1811, and presented him with a certificate and a US flag. Lodge members also arranged for Native Bird Connections, a charity that provides birds for educa- tional purposes, to bring a bald eagle to the ceremony. For his Eagle Scout Project, Hendricks led a project that built and placed several barn owl boxes in nesting sites in the area. Emily Baum of Santa Barbara High School, Brian Cordero-Schneider of Carpinteria High School, Jessica Escalante of Dos Pueblos High School, Will Lorenzen of San Marcos High School, and Allison Swift of Bishop Garcia Diego High School. In addition, lodge members gave each of the honorees a certificate and treated them and a total of 20 guests to dinner at the lodge.


Santa Clarita, CA, Lodge donated the use of its lodge grounds to the ladies auxiliary for a Crab Feast fund-raiser, which benefited the Elks National Foundation, local charities, and the ladies auxiliary scholarship fund.


Santa Maria, CA, Lodge held a Dinner fund-raiser, which 1,700 people attended, and raised $40,000 for the family of US Marine Corps LCpl Cody Elliott, who was badly injured in Afghanistan in June. The event also

Stamford, CT, Lodge donated fire safety packages consisting of 25 smoke detectors, 10 carbon monoxide detectors, 50 junior fire marshal certificates, and 50 fire safety flyers to the Belltown Fire Department and Woodside Fire Station Five, which is part of the Stamford Fire and Rescue Department. In other news, the lodge donated $500 to the Stamford Police Association. 15


Derby, CT, Lodge members joined government officials, emergency responders, and members of other civic organizations at a solemn Memorial Service for the victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks. The lodge provided coffee to all attendees, and a lodge member gave the Eleven O’Clock Toast as part of the service. Lodge members also treated about 40 attendees to dinner at the lodge following the ceremony.


Westbrook, CT, Lodge members awarded $1,500 scholarships to graduates Alexander Lawton of Westbrook High School and Bao-nghi Le of the Morgan School.


Boca Raton, FL, Lodge donated and shipped 26 boxes of supplies to a US military unit serving in Afghanistan. The lodge also donated 11 boxes of supplies to Soldiers’ Angels, which ships care packages to servicemen and women deployed in remote locations.


Delray Beach, FL, Lodge donated nearly $3,200 to local charities.
