Bristol Bay, AK, Lodge held the third annual American Heroes Silver Salmon Derby for 11 teams consisting of a US serviceman or woman who had recently served overseas, his or her teenage child, and a local volunteer guide. The teams competed to catch the largest salmon during two days of fishing on the Naknek River. The lodge provided each of the families attending the event with air transporta- tion from Anchorage (where all of the troops were based) to King Salmon and back, a full weekend’s meals and accom- modations, and fishing gear and fishing boats for the com- petition. Lodge members awarded prizes, which consisted

Birmingham, AL, Lodge held a Wii Bowling Tournament for 40 children

of two round-trip Anchorage–King Salmon air tickets and a two-day guided fishing trip for first place, a $100 gift card from an outdoor sports store for second place, and two rods and reels for third place, to the winning teams. In addition, lodge members awarded door prizes to all 11 families that participated in the event. Prizes included local artwork and other local merchandise and gift cards from businesses in Anchorage. Each participating family also received a 50- pound box of frozen salmon fillets. Kingman, AZ, Lodge members participated in a Memorial Service for the victims of the terrorist attacks of


September 11. Following the service, lodge members treated 40 emergency services personnel to lunch at the lodge to thank them for their service to the community.
