Expanded 64 Channel Remote Display Unit for Gas Detection Sensors


The Detcon (USA) Model RD-64X is a read- only remote display unit designed to monitor real time status of a wide range of gas detection sensors and controllers. The 64-channel system is now being delivered in place of Detcon's 32-


channel Model RD-32X. Like its predecessor, communication is via RS-485 Modbus™ RTU protocol.


Model RD-64X incorporates master and slave communication ports allowing for multiple remote display modules throughout critical management stations in heavy industrial environments. The Model RD-64X features a non-intrusive magnetic interface and backlit LCD that simplifies operation and configuration. During normal operation the unit displays real-time status for up to eight field devices simultaneously and continuously auto-cycles through each active channel screen for constant, up-to-date readings. In an alarm condition the display automatically switches to the screen showing the device in alarm. Location tags for each field device can be added to the display using brief alpha-numeric scripts.


Among the system's unique features is a wireless option that can be used with Detcon's RXT- 320 SmartWireless®


transceivers. Enclosure options include NEMA 4X powered by either


110/220VAC or 24 VDC using an internal power supply and NEMA 7 powered by 11.5- 30VDC using an external voltage source.

New Durable Multi Gas Monitor Launched


Scott Safety (UK) has launched Protégé, a technologically advanced, hand-held, durable multi-gas monitor for detecting oxygen, combustibles, hydrogen sulphide and/or carbon monoxide in industrial, petrochemical and emergency situations.


Certified to the highest possible global performance standards, Protégé is ergonomically designed to fit in the palm of the hand. Rugged but lightweight, Protege can be used in the harshest conditions but is suitable for use in every day working activities. With its small, efficient design and simple two-button interface, users can easily operate all of Protégé’s features with one hand leaving the other hand free. Protégé also features visual, audible and vibrating alarms, extensive data-logging and a large, backlit LCD screen.


With Windows-based proprietary software, a variety


of operating options can be configured for a multitude of uses and personal user preferences including; password control, alarm set points, calibration gas values and automatic zero calibration at start up.


Data logging is based on event changes only, rather than automatic intervals, resulting in the capture of relevant analytics of workplace environments and usage while reducing the number of stored data points. Up to 7,000 significant events can be captured and stored for further analysis. This feature enables the end-user to focus on the data that is the most important to them.


With its easily changeable sensors, Protégé can be configured in five different sensor combinations for use in multiple applications. It is perfectly suited for confined space applications when using the optional parasitic pump which does not require its own power supply. When configured with its optional pump, Protégé is transformed from a personal gas monitor into a confined space monitor.

New Mobile Gas Monitoring Perimeter System


Oldham (France), an Industrial Scientific recently introduced the Mobile Perimeter System (MPS) IV. The MPS IV is a mobile gas monitoring platform that can be rapidly deployed for temporary or remote gas detection applications. It is solar powered, has onboard strobe and siren, and can be configured with wireless communication, making it a truly stand-alone mobile gas monitor.


“The MPS IV provides a unique solution for our customers who need to monitor for potentially dangerous gas levels in areas where conventional wired gas monitors are difficult or costly to install,” says Tom Cunningham, President, Oldham.


The MPS IV monitors up to four gas readings simultaneously and can transmit those readings wirelessly back to a primary alarm station. The monitoring platform is configurable with a convenient tripod mount, or it can be wall mounted, pole mounted or mounted using available magnetic mounting brackets

New Confined Space Gas Detector


Scottish based Gas Measurement Instruments Ltd (GMI), a long established manufacturer of gas detection equipment, has launched its new Personal Surveyor (PS200 Series) product range. This state of the art multi- gas detector will be sold internationally to the industrial safety, shipping and utility markets.


The PS200 is a small yet extremely robust, four gas detector that will detect 15 combinations of flammable, oxygen, hydrogen sulphide and carbon monoxide gases.


This instrument has been specially designed to be easy to use, yet incorporate modern pcb, sensor and battery technologies. Extra loud audible, bright visual and vibrating alarms are designed to keep workers safe when working in confined spaces.


This new portable detector can be bump tested and calibrated automatically ensuring worker safety, corporate compliance, instrument accuracy and record keeping. The bump test and calibration station is available in standalone, PC and networked versions.
