SECTOR FOCUS SAVVY SUPPORT
UK Trade & Investment played a key role in helping Indian ICT company Saviance Technologies establish a UK subsidiary. The company, which specialised in the education sector, decided Manchester would be an ideal location for its fi rst UK operation, Software Folks Ltd, after advice from the UK Trade & Investment team in Delhi. Managing director Rohit Mahajan says: “The Delhi inward investment team was warm and engaging and helped us to explore the potential of the UK market for our business. UK Trade & Investment also supported us with the practicalities of setting up in the UK, such as fi nding offi ce space, engaging local accountants and lawyers, and obtaining business visas.” Launched as a UK company in December 2009, Software Folks has also been able to make use of UK Trade & Investment’s resources to explore new markets back in India, commissioning an Overseas Market Introduction Service (OMIS) report to identify prospective clients. In addition, UK Trade & Investment provided support when Saviance expanded into London in May 2011. “Our business in the UK has got off to a great start, thanks to the support of UK Trade & Investment,” says Mahajan. “We are currently focused on sales and marketing, but will be offering more services over time. Ultimately, we expect the UK to become our launchpad into Europe, and look forward to working with UK Trade & Investment on an

INTERNATIONAL SHOWCASE Helping UK companies exploit such opportunities is one of the main aims of TechWorld 2011. Held at London’s ExCeL, it is the UK’s largest international technology event and the fl agship of UK Trade & Investment’s extensive programme of ICT-related activities (there are 45 this year). Now in its sixth year, TechWorld 2011 is focused on helping UK technology and science entrepreneurs increase overseas trade, access critical research and development, and identify new markets for growth. “TechWorld is our biggest event of the year,” says McGowan. “It is increasingly
recognised internationally as the showcase event to come and see what the UK has to offer, and features an exhibition, conference and one-to-one business meetings. Previous TechWorld events have proven extremely successful in helping UK ICT companies to do business overseas.” He concludes: “We’ve got some
real groundbreaking technologies and innovative solutions being developed in the UK. TechWorld 2011, which will attract delegates from a number of key markets, aims to highlight these to a global audience.” ■
