So why has the service proven so popular?
Primarily, the Newsstands appeal is that it provides a single access point for digital magazines and newspapers on the iPad. It separates digital publications from other non-related apps and gives them a category in their own right; providing a container for installed publications, and centralising purchase, subscription and delivery systems.
The newsstand will appear as a set of wooden shelves, with the cover of the publications latest edition shown on the stand. This intuitive, visual approach to selling iPad editions is a well-established sales channel, having been employed on the iBookstore since April 2010.
As well as a more visually immersive approach to selling iPad magazine editions, the new service offers a simpler subscription process. Once a magazine has been subscribed to, the newsstand automatically downloads the new edition as soon as it is published straight to the device. Consumers and publishers are now sharing in a vastly improved iPad magazine service.
