The Prosilica GT cameras offer new advanced features well suited for outdoor installations such as ITS and traffic monitoring, public security and surveillance, military and space applications, as well as industrial inspection and machine vision. Precise iris lens control allows users to select a fixed F-stop to optimise the depth of field, exposure time and gain; DC auto iris support enables low cost lens control for the security market; precision time protocol, IEEE1588 facilitates camera and peripheral device clock synchronisation across an Ethernet network; while chunk data offers metadata information with captured images such as gain, exposure or region of interest. Advanced colour processing, gamma correction and multiple LUT push applications even further by offloading host processes and allowing users to capture the most suitable image directly out of the camera. High frame rate capability offers burst image capture behaviour often required in a targeted event such as a passing vehicle in traffic applications where multiple images of a license plate improve ANPR accuracy. All GT cameras feature Power over Ethernet (PoE), a technology that supplies power along with image

LED light source Volpi has introduced the intraLED 3 LED light source. This economical and compact lighting system has a service life of 50,000 hours and a light intensity of over 500 lumens (measured on a 1m light guide with an active diameter of 13.5mm). The intraLED 3 LED light source is the next generation model of the successful intraLED 2020. The high- power light source is designed for the requirements of machine vision. With a light intensity of more than 500 lumens, a performance increase of more than 30 per cent was achieved over the previous model. According to the manufacturer, the

light homogeneity is +/- 5 per cent and the typical colour temperature is 6,000 degrees Kelvin. Integration is either manually via the integrated RS232 interface (optional USB) or via the multiport with digital and analogue input. The intraLED 3 is available in two variants and is thus compatible with light guides from

Volpi and Schott-Fostec. Given these specifications, intraLED 3 is suitable for most applications using 100W or 150W halogen light sources. Replacement of conventional halogen light sources offers the user numerous advantages: the long service life of 50,000 hours, the maintenance-free design and the substantially lower power consumption (24V DC/max. 55W) reduce total operating costs. The compact enclosure allows use on a small surface and the threaded rails (M4) on four sides facilitate smooth system integration. Due to its low heat emission, in critical applications the ambient temperature

no longer has to be cooled, or cooled as much as previously. This gives indirect power savings.

Compared to pure LED lighting components such as long LED line illuminations, the hybrid approach with LED light sources and homogeneous fibre-optic line illuminations offers cost advantages and more flexibility. The hybrid system allows fast replacement of individual light sources. Another advantage of a hybrid solution is higher flexibility. With easy-to-replace glass fibre components the lighting system can be switched between bright field, dark field and transmitted light. www.volpi.ch

For low-light imaging Teledyne Dalsa has launched its large-format low light imaging CCD camera, the QuantaPro 2K. The CCD camera is ideal for astronomical, scientific, and medical imaging. The QuantaPro 2K is an affordable solution for a range of scientific applications. With its high sensitivity thermoelectric cooled full frame technology, the camera is designed for low light conditions and long integration times.

QuantaPro 2K include: internal cooling to -35°C with anti fog feature; large 5 x 5cm format with highly sensitive 24µm pixels; GigE interface; single output architecture; low readout noise and dark current (dark current reaches 0.1e-/pix/sec at -35°C); and linear 16-bit digitisation providing dynamic range to 10,000:1 (80dB). www.teledynedalsa.com

COTS cameras

Offering an economical solution through the use of a front illuminated device, the quantum efficiency (QE) approaches that of back illumination, reaching a peak QE of 70 per cent. In addition, the single output format running at 10MHz allows for higher frame rates without the complications of multi-output tap matching. Features and benefits of the

Adimec has released its TMX6-DHD series of COTS cameras, a rugged and versatile line of full HD-resolution cameras capable of up to 60fps performance. The cameras are aimed at demanding airborne and land defence systems requirements. The line of cameras builds on Adimec’s expertise in defence applications as well as its True Accurate Imaging technology for excellent image quality. They are optimised for use in gimbals and situational awareness systems that require optimal detection, recognition and identification capabilities. The TMX6-DHD series, available in 30fps and 60fps versions, feature the company’s image enhancement module that eliminates the effects of a hazy atmosphere due to fog, sunlight or shade scattering.

Other key characteristics of the cameras include a rugged design for harsh outdoor conditions; operating capabilities in a wide range of temperatures (-40°C to +71°C); and low power consumption. The TMX6-DHD cameras are available in 30 and 60fps versions, both with up to full HD resolution (1,920 x 1,080) or XSGA (1,600 x 1,200). They are based on a 2/3-inch interline CCD image sensor and have available Camera Link base or HD-SDI interfaces (others on request). The cameras have a dynamic range of 64dB, consume 4W of power and weigh 300g. They are available in monochrome or colour versions, which utilise Adimec colour processing technology for superb quality and clarity in real-time- changing outdoor conditions. www.adimec.com
