Products: Reviews Outwell Kitchen Store

They say: “Ideal for stowing all kitchen items in one single container for transportation as well as a stand-alone unit in the tent on site is the new Kitchen Store. This large softbag in strong materials includes a lined, waterproof zone as well as a separate pouch suitable for a set of

cutlery etc. There are also exterior pockets for additional items of kitchen equipment.” GWA highlight: “Until recently our camping cookware and utensils had ‘places’ distributed through drawers, cupboards and bags everywhere from the shed to the loft and we always, always forgot something important (usually pans) when we ventured off camping. So when the Outwell Kitchen Store arrived it immediately became ‘the place’ where we keep all our camping food-related stuff. And the wife is happy.” Summary: “The Outwell Kitchen Store is a car-camping product which has made the wife very happy, and thus I love it. Everything has its place and it’s a pocket fetishist’s dream. The integral washing-up bowl is a brilliant touch, and the use of rugged materials and chunky zips mean that it’ll take years of campsite abuse. The only downside is that a diffuse collection of cookwear and utensils is now housed in one place and it’s too big to fit in any of my cupboards at home. If they did a modular version I’d love it.”

They say: “The perfect accompaniment to any fire starter, WetFire tinder can help you get a blaze going even in a downpour. In fact you will find, these amazing cubes actually burn longer when wet.” GWA highlight: “WetFire is a hairy-chested, beer-drinking, knife-juggling kind of fire tinder (fire lighter) which

comes is a box of eight small sachets, each the size of a boiled sweet.” Summary: “WetFire is a damn good fire lighter, and coupled with some sort of sparking device would be an excellent lightweight fuel source or emergency fire-lighting solution. Very keenly priced it’s a great investment.”

Price: £7.95 myBunjee Phone Retainer

They say: “myBunjee is a mobile phone accessory that simply fits over the top of your phone and clips to your clothing or your bag, ensuring it never gets lost, damaged or stolen again.”

GWA highlight: “Being a generically sized product obviously has its limitations. The myBunjee isn’t the prettiest thing in the world, although the black version is less screamy. The coil of plastic feels really cheap, and

the tiny clip isn’t big enough to easily attach to belt loops. If they could make a nicer bungee-cord version, with a small carabiner perhaps, this could be a really nice product indeed.” Summary: “The myBunjee works well, but it’s no looker. Sure, it’s only a £7 product, but it looks like a £7 product. If they made it a little nicer looking and charged £10-12 I’d award it a better rating.”

Nite Ize KnotBone Adjustable Bungee They say: “The

innovative carabiner ends of our KnotBone

adjustable bungee allow you to adjust and lock its cord length precisely for each individual job. It's a little bit evolution, a little bit intelligent design and a whole lot handy.” GWA highlight: “The bungee cord itself passes through the hook and

back on itself where it uses friction and then a simple retaining U-shaped feature to lock into position. It’s a very simple and elegant solution, and means that the 5mm bungee can vary in length from 70cm to 15cm and retain a great degree of stretch and clamping force at any length between those.” Summary: “The Nite Ize KnotBone is rather ingenious, and easy to use. It’s a quality bit of kit and a welcome addition to my bungee collection. The carabiner-style hooks work very well, but I’d like to see a metal J- shaped hook instead, purely because I find them more useful.”
