MAF plans Middle East leisure launches MIDDLE Eastern real estate development conglomerate Majid Al Futtaim Holding is planning to launch three entertainment complexes in Egypt, Jordan and Fujairah. According to Arnaud Palu, CEO of MAF’s leisure and entertainment


division, the company will build an indoor ski slope in Cairo’s Mall of Egypt and Magic Planet entertainment attractions in Fujairah City Centre Mall and Taj Mall in Jordan. “The year 2010 was very much about us reassessing exactly what the


business was all about, allowing us in 2011 to get back on the road and get into full expansion mode,” Palu said. “The Jordan project is still in the negotiation stage, but is a potential joint venture with Alshaya to build a Magic Planet there. “We are also planning some really, really cool stuff with Ski Dubai.


I’m talking about being really innovative and putting Ski Dubai back on the map.”


Timberplay wins new contract UK play specialist Timberplay has landed a £330,000 contract to supply play equipment to Victoria Park, London - a site adjacent to the Olympic Village. The contract is part of a wider Heritage Lottery Fund park restoration worth in the region of £12m, which aims to breathe new life into Victoria Park, within the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. Working in conjunction with


landscape architects LDA Design and principal contractors Geoffrey Osborne, the play area will include Timberplay’s signature pieces, a Pyramid Tower and Climbing Forest. Sand and water also feature heavily within the design.

WALLTOPIA INTRODUCES LEASING PLAN BULGARIA Bulgarian climbing wall manufacturer Walltopia has introduced a new ‘climbing-walls-on-lease plan,’ with rates starting from six per cent APR. “We have developed a new financing plan for people who cannot get their climbing wall project entirely financed,” the Sofia- based company said. “We take no fee for looking into your business plan and will respond with a statement as soon as all requested documents are provided.”


PROFIT GROWTH FOR NZ EXPERIENCE NEW ZEALAND New Zealand Experience, which owns Auckland’s Rainbows End amusement park, made an underlying profit of NZ$1.5m (US$1.3m) in the year to the end of June, some 20 per cent more than in fiscal 2010. Revenues edged up to NZ$10.6m (US$8.9m) as visitor numbers rose and people spent more at the park.


UK OBSERVATION TOWER APPROVED UK Two government authorities in the south-western UK have approved plans for a 174ft observation tower to be built as part of the Festival Pier redevelopment in Weymouth. The £3m Weymouth Eye attraction will be operated by Merlin Entertainments, which already manages the Sea Life attraction on the pier.


DREAMWORLD AXES TIGER WALKS AUSTRALIA Dreamworld theme park on Australia’s Gold Coast has wrapped up its Tiger Walk Experience and plans to replace it with another animal-themed attraction involving the park’s 14 Sumatran and Bengal tigers. Tiger walks have been offered by Dreamworld for more than 10 years and cost A$695 (US$730) for up to five people to walk with a tiger.
