Zamperla enjoying coaster success 2010 was the year that saw the reincarnation of the world famous Coney Island amusement park in New York, US, with a team brought together by Italian ride manufacturer Zamperla transforming the dilapidated venue back into a superb Luna Park. The first season in its new guise was a big success for many reasons, with the park attracting
over 400,000 visitors, more than in any summer since the Steeplechase Park closed in 1964. Those visitors took more than 1.7 million rides on the various attractions on offer, all of which were supplied by Zamperla. In April this year, the new Scream Zone at Coney Island opened, featuring four new thrill rides,
including the two best selling Zamperla coasters – a Volare ‘flying’ coaster, the Soaring Eagle, with a modified vehicle providing an easier loading process and a more comfortable ride, and a horse themed Moto Coaster named the Steeplechase coaster (see the front cover image of this issue of InterPark). Zamperla’s Roller Coaster Dept. is enjoying increased success each year, with many examples of
coaster rides being opened at venues around the world. Among the more recent installations have been an indoor gravity coaster at Changzou Dinosaur Park in China, which in essence is a fast dark ride with a dino theme train developed from the Moto Coaster model; a Speedy Coaster at Adventure Island in the UK, where the park was looking for a coaster without foundations; and a family coaster at Flamingo Land, also in the UK, namely an inverted Air Force 5 with a custom designed layout. Several other new coaster projects are also
currently being developed by Zamperla in conjunction with various parks.
