WATERPARKS

Dream Island opens in Ukraine DREAM Island, the largest indoor waterpark in Ukraine, has opened in the country’s capital, Kiev.

This unique indoor park covers approximately 25,000sq.m and has a capacity for about 3,500 people.

The park takes a Jurassic theme and includes numerous models of prehistoric animals and exotic plants. All rides at Dream Island were designed by Polin Waterparks and Pool Systems, with attractions at

the park including body slide, multi slide, Freefall, Black Hole, Flying Boats, Rafting Slide, Space Boat, Turbolance, Aquatube, Space Hole, Tunnel Freefall and Wide Slide, while children are treated with an Octopus Slide, Aquatower Type-310, Obstacle Track and Iceberg. “We faced some design challenges in the creation of the park,” said Polin architect Sila Gokalp. “Due

to the existing rectangular shape of the building, all the waterslides had to start above the building and enter through the roof.”

Schlitterbahn’s Tubenbach zone launched SCHLITTERBAHN New Braunfels Waterpark in Texas, US, has cut the ribbon on its largest new development in 15 years. Tubenbach features several new attractions and beaches, all

interconnected through an innovative Transportainment river, allowing tubers to stay in the water and float through the Schlitterbahn East area. Darren Hill, Schlitterbahn New Braunfels’ general manager, said: “Not only do we feel that this is

the most thrilling new collection of attractions to open this year in Texas, but we are also honoured to introduce another world record-breaking ride for our guests.” The new 3,600ft. Transportainment area includes life rafts from the decommissioned US warship, the

USNS General John Pope. If visitors look up at the awnings in the Tubenbach area, they will notice writings and drawings from

the 1960s, specifically during the Vietnam War. Messages scribbled overhead include love notes and even a caricature of Uncle Sam and a drawing of a curvaceous woman. “Our parks routinely purchase items from decommissioned ships such as rope, nets, wood and

crates,” said Jeffrey Siebert, corporate director of communications and sales for Schlitterbahn. “This is the first time we’ve used historical items. We’ve incorporated many items off of ships before, but none as significant.”
