Welcome

The UK’s defence community faces many serious issues. Ensuring that the Armed Forces remain effective and can meet the challenges of the future demands honest and open debate, and that’s precisely what the Whither Warfare series of conferences is designed to provide (page 7).

Although hosted by the General Dynamics UK Research Foundation and its senior military partners, the conferences are all about encouraging discussion and providing a forum that allows the expression of new perspectives on doctrines and policies.

It’s all about providing maximum support to the frontline troops, and that’s made easier if you listen to what they say and understand what they are going through. On page 10 you can read how General Dynamics UK holds regular briefing sessions at which returning troops relate their experiences – one of a number of ways in which the Company maintains a dialogue with end users in order to serve them better. And on page 14 you can discover how the annual JIRAD event forges closer relationships with the customer community.

We engage with another community, too. Through links with education at all levels, General Dynamics UK helps nurture, and ensure access to, the best engineering talent. And the article on page 12 also shows how support for qualification schemes leads to a high level of professionalism in the Company.

Wanting to provide our customers with the best skills and technology was a key factor in the recent acquisition of Kylmar. On page 6 you can read how this enhances our offerings in advanced security and force protection.
