Employee Spotlight: Melissa Steele
WHO I AM: Co-General Manager, Diamond Brand Outdoors and Frugal Backpacker.
WHERE I PLAY: Anywhere, as long as it is outside!
WHY I DO IT: My kids. Being outside with them is an adventure in and of itself. They look at things in ways that I never would. Yes, the hike may take longer, but the perspectives that they share with me are amazing.
FIRST OUTDOOR EXPERIENCES: Camping with my cousins in Scotts Hill, Tennessee. We would fish, play in the creeks, and explore the woods all day long. I remember how clear and cool the water always was in Doe Creek. It was fantastic feeling so free and just being able to play outside.
MOST MEMORABLE OUTDOOR EXCURSION: Fellow Diamond Brand employee Tom Ford took me skiing at Cataloochee for the first time two winters ago. I was abso- lutely out of my comfort zone. I may have failed miserably at staying vertical on skis, but I had the best time. Thanks, Tom.
FAVORITE PIECE OF GEAR: Water bottle. It doesn’t matter if it is a CamelBak or Klean Kanteen, as long as there is water in it, I am good to go.
POST-TRAIL HANGOUT: Laying in my ENO hammock. I love it!
