WELCOME The Next 50 Years
incorporated city. It’s been a lot of fun to look back on the past half century. We at the Chamber were proud to outline a number of the stories, refl ections and special occasions in last year’s Business Directory & Visitors Guide. it’s even more important to look ahead. T at’s what we at the Chamber are doing every day of the year; plant- ing the seeds for long term economic stability in San Juan Capistrano. Our volunteer Board of Directors
is a group of people who care very much about our local businesses and the impact that they have on the quality of life here. Every successful business in San Juan helps enhance
the community through job creation, tax generation and the aesthetic appeal of a busy and vibrant downtown. T e San Juan Capistrano Chamber of Commerce is quite excited about the direction of our local economy. Sure, there are still hills to climb and obstacles to get past, but there are a number of positive signs all around us. It’s no coincidence that two hotels are being planned and built simultaneously. T ere’s a reason that three new car dealerships jumped
lthough we always fi nd our community festive and joyful, 2011 has been a year of celebration for San Juan Capistrano. Over the course of the year, we all took time to pause and recognize the 50th anniversary of San Juan Capistrano becoming an
in to operate on our empty lots. A “dry spell” in Chamber ribbon cuttings is fading in memory as our organization has recently planned Grand Openings for a new smoothie store, a travel company, a retail shop, Costco gas (cheap gas in SJC!) and the newest downtown destination: Vito’s Pizza and Italian Ristorante. T ese occasions may not be as notable as a 50th anniversary, but they
certainly give us strong hope that this next chapter in San Juan’s history will be prosperous and memorable as the last. We hope you will take time to get involved with the Chamber. Almost every week we host events that showcase our local businesses, highlight important community topics or just give you time over lunch to learn about what your friends and neighbors do for a living. For more information about the San Juan Capistrano Chamber of
Commerce, our website lists each of these ongoing events, summarizes a number of fantastic volunteer opportunities within the organization and introduces just a few of the people behind the Chamber. Better yet, please feel free to drop by and we’ll happily walk you
through what your Chamber does, how you can take part and how we can help YOU. Remember, “Our Mission is Your Success.”
Sincerely, San Juan Capistrano Chamber of Commerce

Being Business Friendly S
an Juan Capistrano is a business-friendly community that’s made great strides in retaining and attracting new business and working to stimulate its local economy. Our City is committed to fostering economic development and improv-
ing the quality-of-life for people who live and work in San Juan Capistrano. Over the past few years, we have made much progress. Our partnership with the Chamber of Commerce continues to fl ourish, and we are proud to part- ner in diff erent program and events that help to strengthen our community. Our proactive eff orts in reducing fees to auto dealers, hotels and others has attracted some great car dealers back to our City, and we are looking forward to the opening of two new hotels, which will provide more rev- enue for San Juan Capistrano. As the economy
recovers, we are seeking a renewal of business and corporate op- portunities in town. With the redevelopment of the Ortega/I-5 Interchange, we’ve seen the opportunity to move forward with the revision of the Historic Town Center Master Plan. T is plan will unify the businesses east of Del Obispo and the historic downtown into a more robust and interconnected district

over the next 20-30 years. When it’s fi nished, we’ll have a more pedes- trian-friendly vibrant downtown where people will live, work and play. Since our downtown movie theatre re-opened last year, our local business district has seen new life and establishments. Our business facade program continues to enhance the exterior appearance of build- ings in the downtown business district, while preserving the historic character and integrity of those buildings. T e Auto Dealers Associa- tion, Latino Business Association and Equestrian Council of Business are strong forces, each contributing much to our local community. With the June passage of Measure B, voters gave the developer of the planned Distrito La Novia/San Juan Meadows project the green light to build an equestrian/retail/residential development on more than 150 acres. I believe this is also a testament to our residents’ desire to see our business community thrive and expand. I am truly grateful to our Chamber of Commerce and business
community for its eff orts in maintaining San Juan Capistrano’s high quality of life.
