PARKS & TRAILS Capistrano Parks


San Juan Capistrano prides itself on its undeveloped areas, with more than 42 percent of the city either publicly or privately owned open space. Te city also has nearly two dozen parks, many adjacent to multi-purpose trails. Te city also has 34 miles of trails. A trails map is available at City Hall or at www.sanjuancapistrano.org


Restroom Picnic Table 1. ACU CANYON PARK


Camino Las Ramblas, east of Avenida Pescador Small ballfields, children’s play area with swings, tunnels and slides and room to run on a grassy field. Also has a portable restroom.


2. ARCE PARK Del Obispo and Alipaz Streets A neighborhood “pocket park.”


3. ARROYO PARK


Calle Arroyo and Via Parra A nice greenbelt park with plenty of room to run around or just sit and enjoy a quiet moment. Adjacent to trails.


4. BONITA PARK Via del Rey and Avenida Romero A neighborhood park with a swing, slide and climber.


5. COOK CORDOVA PARK


Calle Arroyo at Via Cordova Known to any parent of a soccer, baseball or softball player, Cook Cordova is home to three of the city’s nine fields. Te park also has a restroom and two concrete fire rings with grills. Adjacent to trails.


6. COOK DEL CAMPO PARK


Calle Arroyo and Calle Del Campo An open grassy area with swings, a slide and a climber. Adjacent to trails.


7. COOK LA NOVIA PARK La Novia and Calle Arroyo Park features barbecues, playground equipment, picnic tables, restrooms, volleyball/basketball court and baseball field. Baseball field available for rent. Adjacent to trails.


8. DE LA VISTA PARK


Avenida De La Vista, south end A small neighborhood park with a picnic table. Adjacent to trails.


9. DESCANSO PARK 32506 Paseo Adelanto/Behind the Dance Hall Te park features barbecues, playground equipment, picnic tables, restrooms, horseshoe pits, and a small equestrian arena. Adjacent to trails.


10. EL CAMINO REAL PARK


Camino Capistrano between La Zanja and Calle Chueca A long park along Camino Capistrano featuring restrooms and picnic tables. Te park has a lot of shade from many trees and is adjacent to the railroad tracks. Adja- cent to trails.


11. FOUR OAKS PARK


Via Madonna between Calle Santa Ynex and Via Del Cerro A large neighborhood park that includes a volleyball court, a slide, swing and climbing equipment as well as a picnic table and benches.

31806 El Camino Real, one block south of Mission San Juan Capistrano Park has large grass area, picnic tables, restrooms and the holiday tree. Tis park holds the San Juan Summer Nites Concert Series.


13. JUNIPERO SERRA PARK


Calle Santa Rosalia/Calle Bonita A good-sized neighborhood park with a children’s slide, swing and climber, along with benches.


14. LA RONDA PARK Camino La Ronda/off La Novia A neighborhood park with a bench and small swing set.


15. LOS RIOS PARK


Paseo Adelanto, north of Del Obispo in Historic Los Rios District Te city’s newest park, situated in its oldest neighborhood. Te park features the Montanez Adobe, a wall highlighting the district’s history, children’s play equipment, restrooms and shaded picnic areas.


16. LUCANA GOOD NEIGHBORS PARK


Alipaz Street/Calle Lucana A neighborhood park with three benches to sit and watch the world go by.


17. MISSION BELL PARK Alipaz Street, north of Calle Jardin Swings for the kids, a slide and plenty of grassy area to run around. Adjacent to trails.


18. RIO OSO PARK


Avenida de la Vista/Oso Road A small neighborhood park with two picnic tables that overlook the area’s horse stables. Adjacent to trails.


19. SAN JUAN CREEK PARK San Juan Creek Road/Lacouague A children’s play area with slides, a climber and a tic-tac-toe game, along with a grassy area and two benches. Adjacent to trails.


20. SPORTS PARK


Camino Del Avion/Via Positiva Te crown jewel of Capistrano’s athletic facilities, built with the 1990 Open Space proceeds. Te park has three ball fields, soccer fields, restrooms and a concession stand. Te park is also home to the community gardens.


21. STONE FIELD PARK


Camino Capistrano/La Zanja Te centerpiece of the park is a well used soccer field, with restrooms at the north end. Basketball courts and two tennis courts are north of the soccer field on Camino Capistrano.


22. VETERANS PARK


Camino Capistrano/Yorba Street A small pocket park on Capistrano’s main street, with a Veterans’ Memorial and benches to use while taking it all in.


23. MARCO FORSTER FIELD Del Obispo Street/Paseo de La Paz A sports field for football and soccer play.

33401 Ortega Highway An 8,000-acre protected wilderness preserve. Filled with Coastal Live Oak, California Sycamores, wildflowers, wildlife, and many streams, that can all be viewed from the park’s numerous trails. Allows hiking, camping and equestrian use.
