NOW THAT’S AN IDEA
Back-to-school outreach
As a summer full of amazing missions opportunities, relaxing vacations and beet-red shoulders comes to a close, it’s time to jump into the swing of school and some exciting opportunities to engage the mission field of your local campuses. Here are some ideas from church planters, pastors, church and community missionaries and other ministry leaders for engaging local campuses this year:

We have made it clear to everyone at Simon Fraser University that we simply want to love and serve them with no strings attached. Whether we provide hot chocolate and board games during a blizzard or do the jobs on campus that nobody else wants to do for free, our willingness to serve without expectations has opened doors we thought were impossible to open.”

When we started Child Evangelism Fellowship and let local leaders know that we wanted to serve the schools, Chicago’s mayor asked us to provide backpacks and school supplies. We realized that whatever surface needs we see around us, if we stop long enough and look carefully enough, we’ll be able to seize opportunities to meet deeper spiritual needs as well.”

This year we did a teacher appreciation day where our ladies made baked goods and others brought in fruit and salty snacks too. We did it at two schools and it was really well received. We had a prayer request box too, and several teachers asked for prayer. We did this to get to know them and hopefully get to share the gospel as we minister there. This fall, Scott and I hope to meet with the principal and ask her how we can help her school and tell her we will pray about doing whatever she asks.”

Through partnerships with U.S. churches we’ve held sports camps for kids in Rowden, Quebec, and this provides us with opportunities throughout the school year to maintain contact with kids. We provide school supplies to students and this helps us maintain a good relationship with schools.”
