Oklahoma Honor Flights
Oklahoma Honor Flights (OHF) was founded in 2009. It is a not-for-profit organization and a recognized “Hub” of the Honor Flight Network, Inc., located in Springfield, Ohio. Its sole purpose is to take every Oklahoma veteran who is willing and able to visit THEIR Memorials in Washington, D.C. – at no cost to the veteran.
OHF completed its inaugural flight on May 17, 2010. Additional flights were taken on October 12, 2010, May 4,
2011, and June 8, 2011. State Representative Gary W. Banz and his wife Linda, along with Board of Directors chairman, Steve Coleman, lead OHF. With the assistance of “Guardians” and volunteers, each chartered flight transports approximately 100 veterans to Washington, D.C. and costs more than $90,000.
As of July 1, 2011, OHF has received more than 800 applications from Oklahoma veterans statewide and continues to receive veteran applications daily. The oldest veteran who has traveled with OHF was 97, but most World War II veterans able to travel are in their early to mid 80’s. OHF will continue to plan flights as funding becomes available.
Top priority is given to America's most senior heroes — survivors of World War II and any veteran with a terminal illness who wish to visit THEIR memorial. The program will naturally transition to Korean War, Vietnam War and all other veterans who have served.
