FITTING a lead synth into a vocal track is tough work. Fortunately Jonny from Point Blank shows us how it can be done.

APP REVIEW

APP NAME : MINIMASH DEVELOPER : IGLESIA INTERMEDIA FORMAT : PRICE :

IPHONE/IPAD £1.49

A DJ app with a twist here and one that functions beautifully as a standalone mixing app. Geared towards controllerists, the term mash-up might be slightly dated but that doesn’t take away from the fun to be had when mixing your iPod library while you’re out and about. The way MishMash works so seamlessly is that it reads from a devoted iPod library playlist of your choosing, from where you analyse the selected songs thus making them beatmatched and ready for use. It takes around five minutes to configure and convert, but once you’re done the fun can begin. Against a global tempo, you select tracks from the synced

playlist and get to work on your skills. Cue points, crossfades and pitch adjustment are all part of the main screen interface and can add to the fluidity of your mix. The best thing about this app is the looping function, which sets it apart from some of the other DJ apps we’ve reviewed and generally makes using it much more fun.

If you’re confident of your mobile mixing abilities you can actually record a set within the app and upload directly to Soundcloud. Coffee-break DJ battle anyone?

VERDICT 8/10
