W
ith Virgin Atlantic a holiday to South Africa starts the moment the booking is made! The focus throughout the
journey, from start to finish, is on making travel easy – from the hassle-free online check in and self-print boarding cards right through to the great on-board shopping and choice of meals. Once on the way to South Africa, the emphasis is
on total comfort and entertainment. Economy passengers have plenty of space to relax – with seats that have a minimum of 31 inches of seat pitch plus an adjustable headrest and lumbar support – and a choice of three meals, including a vegetarian option, and complimentary drinks and snacks.
The award-winning Virgin Atlantic entertainment
system includes a personal seatback screen with all the latest movies, comedies, and kids’ shows, CDs and games. Kids are provided with a special meal, and receive an activity pack featuring a puzzle book, baseball cap, reading book, pencil, lollipops and a keyring. Grown-ups receive a personal amenity kit including toothbrush and toothpaste, earplugs, socks (on the outbound flight), eyeshades and a pen. Those who opt for Virgin Atlantic's enhanced
Premium Economy cabin benefit from plenty of personal space; a place where they can relax, stretch out and unwind during their flight. The seat
is one of the largest in its class and with a seat width of 21 inches, it is around three inches wider than most other airlines’ business class seats. In addition, its advanced ergonomic design gives lumbar support, an adjustable headrest with wings and a dual position footrest. The seat is covered in sumptuous purple leather with up to 38 inches of seat pitch and a recline of 16 degrees, which means travellers really can relax in their own quiet space.
Premium Economy passengers also get their own dedicated check-in service and priority boarding and disembarkation. Once onboard they receive a pre-flight drink and a complimentary daily newspaper and then a choice of three meals, including a vegetarian option, served on china dinnerware. A selection of fruit from a fruit bowl is available throughout the flight. Passengers who join Virgin Atlantic’s loyalty programme Flying Club can earn miles to spend on flights, upgrades or with our partners. During British Summer Time (until 29/10/11)
Virgin Atlantic flights to Johannesburg leave Heathrow at 20:30 and arrive in Johannesburg the next day at 08:35. Those to Cape Town depart 19.15 and arrive Cape Town at 08:15 the next day.

“Virgin is an amazing airline which offers a high standard of service, excellent aircraft and a smooth flying experience. It was great to experience Premium Economy. I can tell clients about the wider, more comfortable seats and more personal service. "I’ll be recommending The Virgin Clubhouse lounge at Heathrow, which offers free drinks, including champagne, and a wide variety of food. I loved the seafood bar! There's also newspapers, shower facilities and Cowshed spa treatments." Antonella Mandato, Thomas Cook
“I was extremely impressed with Virgin Atlantic. All the cabin crew were very polite and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The seats were comfortable, the food was excellent and the service very efficient, which I believe to be very important, especially on a night flight. I will definitely be recommending my clients fly with Virgin and to upgrade to Premium Economy where possible." Sarah-Louse Bridges, Miles Morgan Travel
"I have travelled with Virgin on many occasions in the past and have long considered it to be my favourite airline. I am pleased to say again the service was excellent on both sectors – and a big thank you to Virgin for giving us the opportunity to experience Premium Economy" Heidi Kemsley, Travel Counsellors
