NORTH WEST PROVINCE, SOUTH AFRICA

Although extravagantly themed around an ancient civilisation that has been 'rediscovered', The Palace at Lost City is still in the middle of the African bush: one of our group arrives back from the pool to find a baboon, which had climbed in through an open window, scoffing a bag of crisps. Dinner is at the buffet-style Calabash,

while the remainder of the evening is spent at The Shebeen, a night-spot modelled on a township pub. Complete with Jukeboxes and pool

tables, and offering a bar menu and more of those giant bottles of beer, the shebeen is a popular spot for both workers at Sun City and resort guests.

memorable elephant encounter at one of the park's hides. You can read all about this and the park on page 13. Watching a herd of elephants playing and splashing at the waterhole provides plenty of conversation over the huge (and fabulous) buffet breakfast – with champagne and oysters – on offer daily at The Palace. Elephants are also the theme of an afternoon visit to the Elephant Wallow, just minutes from Sun City's four hotels. Here guests have the chance to 'meet' and feed elephants – called Chikwenya, Sharu, Mana and Sapi – and chat to their trainers. The Wallow also offers two-hour elephant-back safaris.

"All of the game drives in Madikwe Game Reserve were great, and all the different rangers offered something different. Their knowledge and expertise brought the bush alive for all of us" Heidi Kemsley, Travel Counsellor

DAY SIX Elephants and Fine Dining "Pilanesberg National Park is the perfect option for clients heading to or from Johannesburg. It offers great game viewing in a malaria-free park,

which is a big draw for families" Melissa Kirby, 2X2 Holidays

Surrounding Sun City Pilanesberg National Park provides a great introduction to wildlife watching in South Africa. After spotting a variety of wildlife that includes several rhinos, hippos, lions, giraffe and a whole host of different antelope we have a

Sun City's signature – and

best – restaurant is Villa del Palazzo, a fine-dining experience at The Palace that is perfect for clients looking for a special experience. The gladrags come out for a sumptuous meal that includes tuna tartar with quail egg, white truffle gnocchi, roasted fresh salmon, beef fillet and dark chocolate fondant. Night-time fun at Sun City includes clubs and casinos – but our group has a reason for having an early night.

DAY SEVEN That's Entertainment! "With four different hotels Sun City caters to just about every client. It will satisfy families, couples and groups, with lots of activities, game drives and plenty to do and see in the nearby area. It's like a mini-Las Vegas: pure fun but charming at the same time" Ricky Kingwell, Kuoni
