A decorative runner adds Christmassy charm to any gathering. The beauty of making your own is that you can ensure it fits your colour scheme exactly
You will need:
Cut a length of fabric to match your table size,
Fabric to make the runner Embroidery thread Beads (or fake berries) Contrasting fabric to make leaves Selection of ribbons Pins Needle Cotton thread Scissors

making it long enough so the embroidery will hang down off the ends of the table. We used linen, which is heavy enough to lay flat. The edges were then frayed to complete the look.

Find the centre point at each end of your chosen
fabric. Using embroidery thread, create a ‘stem’ in running stitch. Carry the stem on to the tabletop but leave the central area free for serving dishes. Stitch on bead ‘berries’ and fabric leaves for a festive touch.

Cut lengths of ribbon
to make a decorative edging. We used ribbons of varying width, colour and texture to add interest. Pin the ribbons to the runner and secure with small stitches. The outer ribbon will stop the fabric from fraying too far.
