Have a romantic New Year

T

he date is 31 December, and as New York prepares for the biggest party of the year,

the lives of singles and couples intertwine in rom-com New Year’s Eve. A veritable galaxy of stars twinkle in this ensemble, with Sarah Jessica Parker, Ashton Kutcher, Jon Bon Jovi (pictured), Robert De Niro and Zac Efron in the mix– as Katherine Heigl’s character says, “There’s going to be more celebrities here than rehab!” Multi-celeb movies are not new – think 2009’s He’s Just Not That Into You. But the jury’s out on whether this is lazy filmmakers hoping that by stuffing the movie full of stars you won’t notice the thin plot – or if we’ll all be celebrating a heart- warming New Year’s Eve this year.

CHRISTMAS CRACKERS Watching a family film at the cinema is a great way to break up the hurtle towards Christmas, and here are the UK’s top ten festive favourites**

❱ Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law are back as Holmes and Dr Watson join forces to outwit and bring down their fiercest adversary, Professor Moriarty.

❱ Hugo Jude Law also appears in this tale, based on the best-selling novel The Invention of Hugo Cabret, about an orphan in 1930’s Paris who lives in the walls of a train station while trying to solve the mystery of his late father’s robot creation.

❱ Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol When Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his team are implicated in the bombing of the Kremlin, they ‘go rogue’ in order to clear their organisation’s name.
