Goodbye dentists’ drill?
The sound can jangle the nerves of even the calmest patients, but the dentists’ drill may soon be consigned to gruesome medical history. Researchers at Leeds University Dental Institute have found that where decay has caused microscopic holes in enamel they can apply a special protein solution to a tooth, which soaks into the holes, forms a scaffold of the protein and allows the enamel to start regenerating. Within weeks the tooth enamel is restored. It takes just one application – no drilling, no pain and plenty of gain! A Swiss company is testing the product worldwide.
