THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY CLAIMS HIGH POINT TITLE AT U.S. NATIONAL SYNCHRONIZED SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS The Ohio State University won three of four finals


events at the 2011 U.S. National Championships to win the overall High Point National Championship title in front of a home crowd at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. The event took place April 14-16 in Columbus, Ohio. OSU’s Yulia Maryanko was crowned the 2011 solo national


champion with an overall combined score of 175.6250. Joining her on the medal stand was teammate Michelle Theriault (173.0375) and Walnut Creek’s Alexa Tchekmarev (171.2625). In the duet free, Maryanko and Theriault (173.9000) teamed


up to earn the gold medal while Nadine Brandl and Livia Lang of Austria (171.2125) followed. Walnut Creek’s Alyson Haylor and Marisa Tashima (168.4875) finished in the bronze medal position. In the team event, the Ohio State University claimed


the top position followed by Walnut Creek and OSU’s “B” squad. In the combination final, Walnut Creek took the top position with a score of 85.5125. The 2011 U.S. National Championships marked the 66th year of national competition in the duet and team events and the 62nd year of solo competition. This is only the second year that the combination event has been included. n
