A closer look at the market
A series of research projects looking at the UK Commercial Printer’s market and commissioned by Robert Horne, has confirmed that the commercial printer is under pressure, with over half of respondents saying that business is either tougher than last year or, tougher than it has ever been. It wasn’t all bad news however. Over a quarter of respondents said that business was better than last year and a small number even said it was better than ever.
The research also found that customers are more demanding than ever, across a broad range of areas from price, to turnaround times, technical requirements and green credentials. The Robert Horne research supported market statistics with the majority of those asked saying that they are buying more, or the same amount of paper, with a fifth reporting they will be purchasing less than in the previous year.
Paul Cassidy, Customer Segment Manager at Robert Horne, comments: “Customer research is valuable and this piece has confirmed much of our understanding. It has also shown that some are weathering the downturn better than others and that is driven by investment in technology and looking at using materials more efficiently.”

“We have undertaken detailed consultation with exhibitor and visitor groups prior to making this decision, and we are extremely excited about the move to ExCeL London for the considerable new opportunities it offers for the expansion and development of Ipex going forward,” says Trevor Crawford, Director of the Informa Print Group. “While our UK audience will always remain critically important to the show, Ipex is a truly global event, and the attraction of London as a venue, and the remaining legacy of the 2012 Olympic investment into the area, will certainly add to the attraction for our international visitors. “This is a significant decision in the history of
Ipex that sees the exhibition return to London,” continues Trevor Crawford. “Ipex has been located at the NEC since 1980, some 30 years of its successful history, and until now the NEC venue was the only one in the UK that could handle the sheer size of the event. Since the expansion of its event halls in May 2010, ExCeL London has now become the perfect venue for Ipex to begin the next chapter in its development.”
David Preskett, President of Ipex 2014, Chairman of the IAC (Ipex Advisory Committee) and European Professional Print Director, Canon Europe says: “Relocating to London will give Ipex the backdrop and foundation to further expand its International appeal. Ipex is a forward-thinking event that is determined to raise the bar to reflect our changing industry and communications media landscape.”

www.ipex.org A move for Dublin show
Faversham House Group has announced that Sign & Digital Ireland and Print Ireland exhibitions will now take place in Dublin in autumn 2012 rather than the planned date in October 2011.
Rudi Blackett, Event Director, comments: “Although there are a number of stands already booked for the October 2011 shows, we feel that the decision to postpone the event until next year is the correct one, given the situation

with the economy in Ireland. It should give the market more time to recover, especially the availability of credit for capital purchases and other types of investment. We are currently in discussion with venues about our preferred dates and we look forward to working with the industry on a successful 2012 event.”
