The Hall of Fame

It’s tough at the top Nicola Roberts, the unsung heroine of Girls Aloud,

talked to Metro newspaper last month about her new debut single Beat of My Drum, what it’s like singing the backing vocals in a girl band for nine years and her biggest fashion blunder. All the kind of stuff you’d expect from the ginger

singing sensation. But then came the killer question: what’s the

worst gig you’ve done? “A private gig at the top of the Gherkin build-

ing. There was no stage – just a 6ft square in the middle of the floor for us to do our dance routines with a group of old banker men staring at us,” she told the paper. “That was very early on. Kimberley [Walsh] hadn’t worked out our stage dimensions at that point.” So, the worst gig ever for the girl band was at

the top of London’s iconic Gherkin with a group of “old banker men”. Mmm, whoever could she be referring to? Answers on a postcard please.

Boating for business To Henley on Thames and the Royal Regatta where

the HoF was treated to a day of Pimms and cham- pagne courtesy of those kind folk at Assurant In- termediary. Despite being organised the day after a lacklustre

mortgage industry awards bash Assurant boss Nigel Payne still managed to make it along on time. Not so lucky was Mortgage Introducer publisher Robyn Hall who in the haze of the morning – yes appar- ently he can get up on time – managed to jump on the wrong train when changing at Twyford and ended up having to cab it from Maidenhead. “I got there in the end,” a flustered Hall told the

HoF. “I was there by 12 but don’t really remember much about the boat races – am not even sure there were any.” Payne, the recognised industry leader in general

insurance, was on fine form though still celebrating the previous night’s achievements. “I am now officially God,” a delighted Payne ‘fes-

sed up. “And there was me thinking you had been for years,” said Hall.

L&G walk for Shelter Hearty congratulations to our friends over at L&G’s

network division who over the weekend of June 25th took a trip down to sunny Dorset for a 30 mile two day trek along the Jurassic Coast to raise £12,000 for Shelter. Stephen Smith, director of housing and external

affairs for Legal & General Network said: “I am so proud of everyone for taking on the challenge and giving their time to such a good cause.

Congratulations to Siobhan O’Shea who will shortly receive £50 of John Lewis vouchers courtesy of Kensington.

Caught in the act

Never one to be caught short here’s the HoF’s exclusive snap of industry Godfather John Malone enjoying some emergency relief at Royal Ascot last month. Here at Introducer

Towers we’re not en- tirely sure exactly what the industry legend is up to but figure it’s nothing too untoward given the Queen was in attendance.

Surveying firm in a league of its own

Belleveue Mortlakes Chartered Surveyors enters the Hall of Fame this month for really being in a league of its own. The group raised a staggering £15,000 for charity Chance UK last month hosting a spectacular football event in Southgate, London. Some 36 teams including Mortgage Introducer took part in the event in front of some 300+ spectators. Alas, MI were knocked out early on with the winners crown going to 1123 Limited. Our snap above is the Arsenal vs Spurs match day highlight with the teams made up of ex- professional players.

Just take a look at this photo of an England training session and work out where the ball is. Photocopy the page, put a cross where you think the centre of the ball is, and send it – along with your name and address – to Nia at the address on page 3. Good luck!
