Banks and SMEs meet to discuss funding

the British Bankers associa- tion has launched a series of regional workshops aimed at discussing the problems of Smes obtaining funding. the first event took place in Sheffield but the outreach


programme will be visiting a range of uK cities with the aim of helping Smes access funding. the days include represen-


tatives of all six of the main high street banks and bring together Smes to discuss issues with funding along with panel discussions and workshops to give advice to businesses on how to ac- cess funding via strong loan applications.


Since the credit crunch,


Smes have struggled to find funding lines with many of the main lenders from the high street which has also led to the nacFB pro- moting alternative finance for Smes. essentially, if an Sme has been turned down for funding by the main lenders on the high street, it is still possible to get advice from profes- sional brokers that can


help the business gain access to funders that busi- nesses may not be aware of. obviously, getting the main


lenders and Smes to discuss the problems of arranging finance is extremely impor- tant and a very useful ven- ture but it is also important that businesses recognise the role that a commercial broker can have in bringing alterna- tive lenders and businesses together.


Member services goes from strength to strength


Back in early 2010, i estab- lished the member services package for all nacFB mem- bers. this package was de- signed to assist members in accessing markets that they may not have dealt with on a frequent basis and to provide them with additional income streams to add value to their businesses. Since the inception of


member services, its popular- ity has gone from strength to strength. at the time of writ- ing our members have pro- vided over 500 leads to our business partners alone this year and many have received commission for these. chris Whittaker, business


development manager for member services, looks at the progress so far and outlines future seminars:
