PMT joins big time, Turnkey to return

Dolphin purchase puts Thomann in crosshairs, Turnkey set for revival

BY RONNIE DUNGAN

PMT MD director Gilson says the firm’s purchase of Dolphin Music has put them in the ‘Premier League’ of MI retailers. The business was acquired in a deal – believed to worth around £1.5m – by S&T Audio (the trading name of PMT). Gilson said he felt PMT

was severely lacking a credible online presence before the purchase. “We were probably the

best bricks and mortar retailer, but the worst online. Last year we increased our investment in online but we were already playing catch-up.” Gilson believes that the

firm could challenge the dominance of German juggernaut Thomann. “There’s a lot of fog out there at the moment

because of the state of the Euro. If the Germans were to leave the Euro for instance, then that gives us a huge opportunity.” Gilson also hinted that

the Turnkey retail brand, which it acquired from Sound Control, will be revived in the near future. “Turnkey will return in

various forms in the third or fourth quarter of the year,” he revealed.

Martin trademarks headstock

ACOUSTIC GUITAR manufacturer CF Martin & Co has trademarked the headstock

configuration it has used on its instruments for over 161 years.

The move comes as part of an ongoing process to protect its intellectual property.
