Dr Angelique Mastihi – Editor-in-chief MPS Medicolegal Adviser

Welcome to our celebrity edition of New Doctor! Max Pemberton, whom I am sure you all know from his column in the Daily Telegraph and book Trust Me I’m a Junior Doctor has answered questions posed by F1 interviewer Dr Anna Rebowska.

Max is a trainee psychiatrist so if his passion for psychiatry ignites a fire in you, you’ll find our feature on how to work in psychiatry useful. Drs Liz Ewins and Dan Hodgson explore the stigma and misconceptions surrounding the specialty, which it appears are not just limited to the patients.

This issue also boasts more great features from Drs Gemma Pilgrim, Tatiana Gutierrez and Claire Hopkins, who explore whether what women wear in the workplace matters to patients, and investigates what patients would prefer they wear.

I would like to welcome Dr Jayne Molodynski, a medicolegal adviser based in our Leeds office, who has joined our merry crew here at New Doctor. She contributes a feature on her experience of cases where doctors have been accused of plagiarism and advises doctors why the GMC takes probity so seriously.

Many of us have worked abroad and the wealth of experience that can bring is not limited to medical experience. Dr Elizabeth Ormerod has kindly provided an account of her story when she found herself working as an F2 when the earthquake shook Christchurch.

Welcome
