letter from the editor July/Aug 2011
always been big believers of feng shui, with many examples evident in its buildings, landscaping, its mascot the Merlion, and its currency. Recently someone pointed out that on the Singapore $1 coin, besides the Pa-Kua shaped octagon, there is a second feature some of you may have missed.
Take a look at the coins; in 1990, the banner on the coin curved down and this actually created a sad face. After the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis, it is said Minister Mentor Lee Kwan Yew consulted his feng shui master, who gave him an immediate solution – to change the curve of the banner on the coin turning upwards, to make the coin smile! Tis later coin shows the new design, featuring a happy looking Singapore coin. Interesting that something so unobtrusive can make such a difference?
Kate Middleton’s dazzling smile lights up the world at a time when we need it most.
BE CLEVER WITH WATER Back to the issue, we have so many good stories for you to sink your teeth into. Our feng shui detective series by Lillian Too features Water Smarts. Because the year is so lacking in Water, and this is the element that can bring the year back into balance, everyone needs water. But introducing a water feature into your feng shui has taboos that MUST be avoided. In this issue, she explains how water can be brought safely and effectively into the home. We also have a feature on Mirror Magic, and on how to perform special rituals to remove obstacles, attract wealth and create happiness in your life.
then send some protective amulets to your children studying abroad, working overseas, on assignments in dangerous places or simply travelling on duty... because looking at the charts of the months to come, the catastrophes and disasters of 2011 are not yet over. Te world is not out of the woods yet.
THE POWER OF SMILES Now on to a much happier note, we turn our attention to the greatest ‘HEI SEE’ that can lift us out of our doom and gloom. I am speaking of course of the Royal Wedding and the beautiful new Duchess. Here was a happiness occasion on quite an amazing scale. Literally, the whole world tuned in to watch as dashing Prince William married his radiant bride Kate Middleton.
Kate, now Duchess Catherine, dazzled us with her smile. Indeed, her face was so happy and so auspicious, and continues to beam at us from all the magazines and newspapers of the world... lighting up the world exactly at a time when we need it most. Te power of the smile is a potent thing, and from a princess that captures the whole world’s imagination, even more powerful still.
THE SINGAPORE EXAMPLE Speaking of smiles, here’s a little story to share on the Singapore $1 coin. As many of you know, Singaporeans have
