COLLEGE OF ARTS & SCIENCES
Students who pursue liberal arts majors benefit from the depth and breadth of programs available. Experiential learning opportunities transform the classroom experience into a life-changing adventure. The History department offers supervised work experience in local historical, archaeological or cultural organizations including nearby public heritage sites like the Timucuan Preserve and the Castillo de San Marco. Jazz Studies students collaborate with notable guest instructors such as Kurt Elling. Students in our Advertising and Public Relations programs participate in a capstone campaigns course where they research and develop strategies for real, not-for-profit clients.
Flagship Program: Coastal Biology This program is centered around hands-on field studies of the marine environments located within minutes of campus, including the Atlantic Ocean, St. Johns River, Intracoastal Waterway and numerous lakes and marshes. Coastal Biology students also participate in conservation studies in our on-campus wildlife areas.
Flagship Program: Music With an emphasis on American Music and comprised of dedicated faculty members who are recognized artist/practitioners in their fields, our music program is one of the most recognized performance-based music programs in the country. Students in this program will take part in outreach programs and band camps with Jacksonville youth, perform weekly in the community and depending on concentration, travel internationally.
