2. MONTE-CARLO WHEN IT GLITTERS... It’s hard to imagine a more idyllic or sophisticated place than Monte-Carlo; it brings to mind jet setters, mega-yachts bobbing in the harbor, the glittering casino where the rich and famous play, and the fairy-tale legacy of Princess Grace, Prince Rainier and the Grimaldi family who have ruled the Principality of Monaco for over 700 years. It’s all part of the magic you’ll discover – along

with Monaco’s cathedral, the Place de Palais and more – on a morning orientation tour and time on your own. Fairmont Monte Carlo – Meals B

3. HAVING A NICE TIME / M EMBARK IN ARLES Time spent in Nice is always nice, as the legions of travelers who have been drawn here since the 18th century by the area’s mild Mediterranean climate and spectacular natural beauty can attest. And you’ll discover the charms of Nice for yourself, whether on today’s walking tour or while exploring on your own along the Promenade des Anglais overlooking the Bay of Angels… strolling the medieval streets of Old Town Nice… or within lively Rue de France. After lunch on your own, continue on to Arles, where you’ll embark ms Swiss Emerald and enjoy the Captain’s welcome reception and dinner tonight. Meals BD

4. M VAN GOGH’S ARLES & CAMARGUE COWBOYS Ancient Arles was there long before the Romans found it... but you can still see a lot of what they left behind as you explore the city this morning, including the Roman arena from the 1st century BC – still being used for bullfights and plays. Look beyond Arles’ medieval streets and walls to see why the surrounding landscapes were such an inspiration to Vincent van Gogh; the quality of the light is amazing! An excursion to the Camargue region features a traditional Provençal lunch at a working farm, complete with a private demonstration by local cowboys and the famous Spanish black bulls they raise. Cruise to Avignon tonight. Meals BLD
