ON THE FLOOR Shangaan Dance!

South Africa’s Shangaan tribe are crazy! They are bringing their wacky breed of electro and super-fast dancing to London this month…

BARBICAN, LONDON

WHOEVER said music should be taken seriously? Chin-stroking dubsteppers, trance purists and moody deep house loyalists take note: life is too short to be po-faced about what’s essentially an arrangement of sounds made for people to dance to, right? Take a leaf from the books of the guys behind the street dance phenomenon currently taking Africa by storm, Shangaan Electro. Sticking two fi ngers up to convention, replacing traditional instruments with midi- keyboard melodies, 180bpm marimba

beats and chirping vocal samples, members of South Africa’s Shangaan tribe dress up as clowns in weird jumpsuits, curly wigs and colourful dresses to dance it off to ludicrously fast electro. It really is bonkers. Those unable to make it over to South Africa can catch some wacky dancing and live performances on Saturday 25th June when Blaze presents Shangaan Electro to Rich Mix in East London.
