AVID TARGETS SMALL AND MEDIUM SIZED BUSINESSES WITH ISIS
Avid has launched a shared storage solution aimed at small to medium sized businesses in production, post production and broadcasting. The 16TB entry point ISIS 5000-16 offers the same performance as Avid ISIS 5000-32 TB range, with interoperability with Media Composer, NewsCutter, Symphony, Avid DS video editors, and Avid Interplay. It also delivers support for Apple Final Cut Pro and comes standard with Avid NewsVision 2.0. Director of Solutions Development Kevin Usher commented: “Unlike competitive solutions, Avid ISIS 5000- 16 uses advanced, self-balancing intelligent storage, backed by comprehensive workfl ow testing. It is also based on software that is proven daily by the most demanding broadcast and media enterprise customers throughout the world.” The capabilities of the ISIS 5000 range include rigorous testing and verifi cation with Avid professional editing systems, Interplay Production asset management systems and AirSpeed Multi Stream video servers, as well as openness with with Final Cut Pro and mixed Avid/FCP workgroups.

BROPHY TO HEAD LIVE SOUND Avid has appointed Mick Brophy as European sales manager for its Live Sound division, heading up Avid’s Live Sound European sales team, with a focus on driving sales of the Avid VENUE live sound console range. Brophy spent four years in Barcelona as the international sales and market- ing director of professional products for Vieta, based at SeeSound, Avid’s Spanish and Portuguese distributor. Brophy will be based at Avid’s EMEA headquarters at Pinewood and will report to VP sales Paul Hennessy.
INTERPLAY CENTRAL EXTENDS THE WORLD OF CONTENT CREATION
AVID ENHANCES COLOUR CONTROL Content creators can now use Avid Artist Color to control the colour grading features of systems such as Assimilate Scratch, Image Systems Nucoda and Pomfort Silverstack SET Edition via native support for Avid’s EUCON protocol. The move reinforces Avid’s commitment to driving open- ness across the industry – and follows the unveiling of support for Windows 7, Autodesk, RED, and The Foundry. EUCON is Avid’s high-speed Ethernet control protocol designed to provide open solutions for content creation.
Avid has launched its latest “next generation” workfl ow tool Interplay Central, which promises web-based editing via a laptop or desktop computer to a wide range of production staff – including executive producers, technical directors, editors, graphic artists, writers and reporters. Production staff can sign into the Interplay Central portal where they can access persona “panes” designed for tasks associated with different parts of the production process. Interplay Central also includes a mobile app which will allow users to browse, create and edit content directly from anywhere even offl ine or out of network range. The fi rst implementation of the tool will be aimed at news journalists and will provide web-based access to clips via the news broadcaster’s Interplay or iNews systems. The product includes a basic editor, voiceover recording tools and a scripting tool, enabling journalists to cut a news piece on a laptop from anywhere in the world. The vision is to adapt Interplay Central, over time, to suit many different types of users.
