In the fast moving world of editing, nothing stands still for very long. The latest innovation is web-based editing, and, as you might expect, Avid is at the forefront of this technological development. At last year’s NAB in Vegas,

Avid unveiled a technology demo showcasing its prototype web-based editing platform, and this year it went one step further by launching its fi rst ready to market web editing tool, Interplay Central. The fi rst incarnation of Interplay Central enables news journalists to cut breaking news stories on a laptop from anywhere in the world. Future versions of Interplay Central promise to further extend this functionality and user base. You can fi nd out more about

Avid’s web-based editing in both the news section of Create and in an interview with the company’s cloud-based computing guru Al Kovalick on page 26. Elsewhere in this issue there’s

all of Avid’s key news from NAB, a string of enlightening production stories from a wide range of Avid users; from modest- budget online productions to big budget features. There’s also interviews with top-end music producers, live events specialists, tips from Avid editors and much more besides.
