METHODOLOGY Interviews were conducted over the web, using dynamic adaptive


programming techniques. That is, respondents are only asked to rate companies with which they are familiar and only in regard to how those companies perform on factors the respondent considers to be important.


By eliminating the ‘noise’ created by asking respondents to answer


every question or rate unfamiliar companies on unimportant factors, this technique results in highly accurate and meaningful information.


The study consisted of two different questionnaires: life and non-life.


Some respondents answered both. Each questionnaire was available to answer in English, Portuguese and Spanish.


LIFE The life study instrument consisted of 30 questions about reinsurer


utilisation, perceptions of reinsurers and related topics. This study’s results included interviews by 203 respondents, representing


157 companies in 21 countries. The average interview length was 25 minutes. The overall results of this study are accurate to within ±4.5 percent at a 90 percent level of confidence.


NON-LIFE The non-life study instrument consisted of 42 questions about reinsurer


utilisation, perceptions of reinsurers and related topics. In addition, 14 broker companies and 20 lines of business were examined. This study’s results included interviews by 213 respondents, representing


168 companies in 31 countries. The average interview length was 41 minutes. The overall results of this study are accurate to within ±4.7 percent at a 90 percent level of confidence.
