My story of Courage
by Yosef Asmeron
Yosef Asmeron, 14, comes from Eritrea in East Africa. His family fled the country, which has been ravaged by war for many decades, to Libya, and later found permanent safety in the UK. Yosef, along with his mother and two sisters, has been living in Scotland for the past seven years.
‘I was born while my mother was in Libya, but my family are originally from Eritrea,’ he says. ‘There was a war in my country, and we escaped. I’m a British citizen now, with a British passport. I’m going to back to Eritrea in the summer, to visit my dad’s grave.
‘I’ve grown up in Scotland, making friends, going to school,’ adds Yosef. ‘At the moment life is good – being with YDance is good and I’m meeting new people and doing things I wouldn’t normally do. It’s something I enjoy.’
Yosef (pictured below far right with friends TJ and Clinton) will appear at Glasgow’s Tron Theatre during Refugee Week with YDance, performing Under the Same Sky. See page 11 for details.
