Welcome to the Precise Mortgages special supplement on near prime. You all know the score on the state
of the mortgage market – unless you’re a perfect person with a perfect credit score, perfect employment status (preferably with a large company) and
a perfect payment history, you haven’t got a hope of getting a mortgage. But you’ll know better than anyone that most borrowers don’t fit the vanilla description above. With the Bank of England base rate heading in only one direction over the coming years borrowers trapped on their existing lender’s standard variable rate will see their monthly payments become less affordable.
