Anza Youth Report
The Easter bunny treated the WORCS youth to prestine weath- er and track conditions for round four of the WORCS Series. The Cahuilla Creek MX facility despite only its second year on the circuit is fast becoming a favorite among racers. The wide flowing mx track is a thing of beauty set upon a rolling hillside. Spectating is ideal with views of the entire MX track, and some visible sections of the off road loop.
The WORCS series has always been known as youth racer friendly. The promoter has enough wisdom to recognize the future of his series and sport depends on these youngsters who tear it up month after month on this rugged series. We know the series has caught the interest of riders across the United States, but at round 4 it was evident how far the attention really reaches. The Orellano family made the journey from Ecuador to allow their son the opportunity to experience the WORCS style of racing that they had previously only read and dreamed about. Young Beto Orellana had never seen a track of this magnitude in his home country, and certainly had never faced competi- tion of this caliber. He was not to be rattled however, entering his Apex USA provided 70cc machines in both the 70 produc- tion and 70 Stock classes. Orellana claimed a respectable 7th place in both events, and more importantly got to experience the famous WORCS hybrid form of racing.

“Never give up” is a term that is often thrown out while discuss- ing successful race strategies. At last years WORCS banquet after overcoming almost impossible odds to claim the Pro title, this is the advice that Josh Frederick gave to those in atten- dance. One young rider Brock Sizemore #322 from Bakersfield CA, took Frederick’s wisdom and used it to claim the 90cc Pro- duction win. Sizemore spent nearly 45 minutes trailing the #64y entry of Wayne Anderson, only to pull off a miraculous last turn pass for a dramatic win.
The young rider Kyler Thau who i mentioned in last months ar- ticle proved my praise was well deserved. Thau was untouch- able in the stock classes winning both the 70 and 90 events. Thau nearly missed a podium as well in the highly competitive 8-15 Sport class as well. Expect to hear this kids name a lot in the future.
Well after 4 rounds of battle on the West Coast the tour heads to Idaho for the halfway point of the series. Round 5 takes place June 3-5th in Payette, Idaho. The points chases will start to form at this point, with would be champion’s making their push into the second half of the season.
