ANNUAL DIVIDENDS F
Canada For All Seasons
Canada’s selling season just goes on and on. Contrasting conditions through each season makes it a year-round success, says Julie Baxter
or many destinations the question of 'seasonality' presents an ongoing challenge, but for Canada the
turning of the seasons offers different potential selling opportunities. The vagaries of the weather conditions
mean that Canada is really two (at least) destinations in one. Visitors who travel in winter are
treated to perfect snow and glistening ice-covered lakes; but if they arrive in summer they can expect glorious blue skies, rushing rivers and long lazy days blessed with endless sunshine. Add in the flower festivals of spring
and the kaleidoscopic colours of the foliage in autumn and Canada becomes a compelling sell year round. While many clients will no doubt
think of Canada first and foremost as a cold and snowy destination, now is the
perfect time to stress the fact that it also has gloriously warm, blue-sky summers. Where winter is about the snow, summer and, to a large extent, spring and autumn, are about action, adventure and outdoors activities. Rock climbing or horse-riding, mountaineering or white-water rafting; fishing or sea cave kayaking; golf or mountain biking – all are widely available. And being active among a truly memorable landscape guarantees some great 'wow-factor 'experiences. For horse-riding recommend British
Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, New Brunswick or Québec, where visitors can saddle up for just a few hours or for a whole cowboy-lifestyle week. The Rocky Mountains are a big draw
for climbers and hikers but equally Newfoundland, which is nicknamed ‘The
Rock', offers plenty of challenging outcrops too; or Ontario and Québec give access to the Canadian Shield range. Water babies won’t be disappointed
either. Some of the wildest river waters are found in British Columbia and the Yukon but central Canada and the east coast also offer adrenaline-filled rafting excursions on the Ottawa River. Check out ocean kayaking, too, for
adventures on the east coast where clients can get among whales and visit sea caves. Alternatively, suggest they explore the Great Lakes’ shoreline in Ontario; or paddle the Inside Passage or Johnstone Strait on the west coast. For the less adventurous, walkers will
be in their element, stepping out along the many hiking trails or when hiring a bike to follow safe and easy routes along disused railway tracks, purpose-built
