Music In summer, music fills the air
with the Edmonton International Jazz Festival, Hip Hop in the Park and the Symphony Under The Sky. The Edmonton Folk Music Festival is a four- day outdoor extravaganza that attracts more than 80,000 music lovers. Staged in the scenic river valley, it has sold out every year for over a decade and is Canada’s largest folk music festival.
Theatre Edmonton hosts one of the
world’s largest international fringe festivals, second only to the original Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Attracting over 500,000 visitors. In addition, check out VISUALEYEZ – a festival of performance art. The Edmonton International Street Performers Festival is also a great celebration.
Local Culture Alberta has a strong Western cowboy tradition and this really comes to town for the Canadian Finals Rodeo held in Edmonton. This brings top rodeo competitors together from around the world to compete for over $1million in prize money. In addition, the city’s multi-cultural make up shines through at the Heritage Festival which celebrates 75 cultural backgrounds.
Families There are festivals throughout the year that are suitable for families. Recommend the International Children’s Festival, the Capital EX summer exhibition, or the Winter Light Festival and The Santa Claus Parade in winter.
