APP REVIEW

APP NAME : GRUVTRON DEVELOPER : SOUND TRENDS FORMAT : PRICE :

IPHONE/IPAD/IPOD TOUCH £2.99

GRUVTRON is a synth with its own inbuilt drum machine, enabling you to use the app as both a tool for jamming and also a standalone synth. The main interface is made up of note squares, five high and eight wide. Height represents pitch and width is complexity, so if you touch the bottom left square you will hear the lowest and least complex sound. To use the synth presets on their own, simply switch to the live mode and you’ll see a more traditional keyboard layout. You can easily change the key in which you’re playing, and switch between major, minor, pentatonic, blues or chromatic scales. Tempo is fully adjustable, and with over 40 presets you can find a

sound to suit your mood. There is also a modulation strip within the main screen to add swells and vibrato to the sounds being created We had a jam using the 12 bass presets provided, and

it was a lot of fun. If the developers decide to add an audio recording element to the app, the appeal will increase tenfold.

VERDICT 7/10

Jonny from Point Blank just happens to be an expert in all things 140bpm…
