How Quickstart Global helped Thames Side in India


Making the case for overseas expansion Quickstart Global, which helps companies access markets and talent overseas, recently helped a British business to move one step closer to expanding its operations. We asked Thames Side’s managing director Steven Brown to tell us about his experience.


Who are Thames Side and what do you do? We are a manufacturer in the process weighing industry. We are the UK’s market leader in load cells and mounting assemblies for industrial and process weighing – such as those that weigh tanks or vessels. It’s a very niche product.


Why were you keen to access markets abroad? It was the next obvious growth opportunity for us. Having developed a manufacturing plant in Barcelona back in 2006, we were aware of the benefi ts of having overseas operations. We were aware that the Indian market potential was huge, but needed more in-depth knowledge to make a properly informed business decision.


So how did you fi nd out more about the potential market? We decided to fi nd out more about the opportunities and intricacies of opening an operation in India, and were keen to do this quickly. Through Quickstart Global’s existing Indian facility we hired two very capable MBA researchers to look in detail at our market, within the context of introducing our products to India.


What did Quickstart Global deliver? Quickstart Global delivered a number of elements which were crucial in helping us to make the decision on whether to move into India or not. The researchers who worked for us were highly knowledgeable and identifi ed the size of the potential market and were able to provide advice on pricing, which is invaluable. They also gave a clear idea of the size of operation we would need to set up to access this market. They then drafted a really comprehensive business plan, and outlined a range of business models with recommendations of which we should consider.


What input was needed from your side, and were you pleased with the service? The researchers needed minimal supervision from me and were managed very well by Sridhar, the Quickstart Global manager in India. I am extremely pleased with the service Quickstart Global has delivered, which was exactly what I was looking for.


So, will you now be setting up an operation in India? Yes, the research gave us the confi dence and information we needed to progress our plans to have a presence in India.
