KEEPING IT CLEAN
The UK is a world leader in the development of green technologies. Lorraine Shah reports
For businesses around the globe, climate change has become an increasingly signifi cant issue that requires an ongoing focus and commitment. Governments, investors, customers and employees are all pressing organisations to take on responsibility for their environmental impact. In the UK, an ever-growing number of companies are working to help businesses to achieve this by developing energy and resource-effi cient solutions to help them respond to the challenge.
Countries too are increasingly allocating a sizeable proportion of their budgets to help them move towards a low-carbon economy and fulfi l their domestic and international environmental obligations. Major markets, such as China and the US, are committed to environmental improvement and enhancing their ‘green infrastructure’ through fi scal stimulus packages, creating a wide range of exciting opportunities for UK suppliers of clean- technology products and services.
Michael Talbot, low carbon economy manager at UK Trade & Investment, says: “The transition to a low-carbon, resource-effi cient economy is making the world think about the way we generate, transport and consume energy across all our social and economic activity. “The UK is home to a diverse range of
world-leading low-carbon businesses and organisations, which have the knowledge, technology and experience to bring about signifi cant reductions in carbon emissions.”
