DIGITAL: SUPER-WIDE FORMAT PRINTERS

Rho Roll inks used in the Durst Rho 320R are environmentally friendly with no VOCs

inks, making it a wise choice for the cost conscious.

Greater productivity

In the current climate, productivity is something we are all striving to increase, which is why the latest addition to the Mimaki stable should go down a treat. The JV34-260 features a print width of 2.6m and achieves significantly faster speeds resulting in higher productivity while at the same time appealing to cost-conscious print service providers.

The sign and graphics market is characterised by different requirements for indoor and outdoor applications, which is why this one will prove popular because it covers all applications, be it banners, flags or other substrates. In addition, the new super-wide inkjet machine boasts outstanding results with outdoor durable or sublimation inks on a variety of materials including polyester, while at the same time streamlining workflows.

The Mimaki JV34-260 incorporates two newly developed print heads in a staggered arrangement, resulting in a print speed of around 30m2/h at 540 by 720dpi. Further productivity

improvements are gained through a range of functions that enable largely unattended production, freeing personnel and workload for other tasks. Mimaki’s automatic media feeder also provides continuous web tension over the whole width of the substrate enabling impressive image quality, even on long jobs.

Take to the slopes

The exciting thing about the super-wide format market is the range of applications for which it is suitable, because this demonstrates just how flexible this technology is. A good examplecomes from French large format print specialist, Light Air, which recently produced a massive print job on behalf of mountain sports equipment manufacturer, Rossignol. The brief was to produce a series of wide- format graphics for the high-focus Rossignol Demo Tour - a multi-country, multi-resort, alpine road show that allows skiers and snowboarders to test the company’s latest equipment for freer.

The brief was to provide maximum visual impact and ensure head-turning interest throughout each resort by employing print

technology true to Rossignol’s environmental philosophy. According to Light Air’s commercial director, Jean-Baptiste Aguettant, this was easily achieved using a trio of HP large format digital inkjet printers, including the HP Scitex LX600 printer, running water-based HP latex inks. Jean-Baptiste explained: “Our print facility is 100 per cent HP and our appreciation for greener technology is demonstrated by the fact that we were the first print service provider in France to install the HP Scitex LX600.”

And finally

Cost is a big factor in the printing industry, as is environmental impact, so it is clear that the industry has changed a lot. What hasn’t changed, however, is the ability of manufacturers to meet demand. Innovation is still a key strength so we can continue to look forward to many years of superior graphics that meet the demands of even the most discerning customer.
