FLOODS PLAN FOR YOUR

PETS TOO Four-legged members of the family need your help to safely escape disasters. Use these suggestions to plan for them.

Don’t assume that motels, hotels and emergency shelters will accept pets. If you’ve identifi ed lodging that has a no- pet policy, ask if it can be waived during a disaster. Keep a list of your top choices with the personal papers you’ve identi- fi ed to take during a disaster.

If you can’t fi nd a suitable shelter or hotel, contact animal shelters, boarding places or veterinarians to see what their emergency policies are.

If your evacuation plan includes staying with relatives, make sure to discuss your pets’ needs with them too.

Put together a pet emergency kit that includes animals’ medicines, medical records, tags, collars, leashes, carriers, food and feeding bowls.
