COMMS PEOPLE Job market boom
COMMS industry recruiter JMA Network registered over 12,000 telecoms industry people looking for new jobs during the first eight weeks of the year, and interview activity has more than doubled following this remarkable uplift. But even though activity has intensified the actual closing of the best people for the job is no easier, according to JMA’s Managing Director Clive Jefferys. He commented: “A large number of people have decided to look for new positions, giving employers their best shot of attracting new staff in two years. But there are strings attached.”
While this uplift is welcome news, demand for higher salaries is leading to counter-offers causing widespread confusion across the hiring scene, claims Jefferys. “While our offer rate has gone up dramatically, so has the non-starter rate, making expert negotiation and closing absolutely key to the hiring process. Unfortunately, many employers think offers will automatically close,” he commented.
Avnet bolsters HP team in UK
AVNET Technology Solutions has increased the size of its HP team in the UK to help business partners benefit from the opportunity to sell HP 3PAR utility storage technology solutions. A 55 strong Avnet team of people is involved in a series of awareness campaigns, training sessions, technical workshops, pre-sales support and briefing meetings so that business partners will gain an understanding in business terms of the issues that HP 3PAR solutions address.
Scott Murphy, HP divisional leader, Avnet Technology Solutions UK, said: “It’s no understatement to say that HP 3PAR utility storage solutions are a transformational technology for our business partners. Recognised as a strong green storage proposition and built for the cloud, HP 3PAR combined with Avnet delivers an opportunity for high growth to those partners who embrace the technology.”
Core appointment
LEEDS-based Core Telecom has appointed Richard Griffiths as Director of Marketing. He joins from Hull-based KC and brings more than a decade of sales, marketing and comms experience. He was also the former regional Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations. Mahmood Mazhar, Core Telecom’s Chief Executive, said: “As we seek to expand further, Richard’s experience and expertise will be critical to our continued success.”
Clive Jefferys
“Allowing long start dates before people join is a fatal mistake, leaving many candidates open to counter-offers as they work out their notice periods. The relationship between client and agency needs to get closer.”
