Mick Jehan (second left) with the 4Hire team from Jersey visited for the second year.

The purpose of our visit this year was to rationalise some of our suppliers and our visit to the Parkers stand enabled us to achieve this in a number of areas as it stocks such a wide range of products. We were really impressed with Parkers’ staff product knowledge and the company’s willingness to deal with us across the stretch of water.

We came across Matt Dolan (left) and Jem Butler (right) of Alpine Hire doing

It was good also to meet up with old friends on the ArcGen Hilta stand and see their latest products. We’ll do more business with them as the year unfolds. Two weeks on from the Show, we’re still going through all the product information that we collected. Our visit was very worthwhile and we’ll be back again next year.

Andy Martin (centre) and Willie Greig of Martin Plant Hire, pictured on the Hilti stand, were impressed by the amount of new products on display at the Show, as well as the positive atmosphere amongst hirers and suppliers.

We were very interested in Hilti’s new TE-3000 AVR breaker, which

is very impressive in terms of low vibration, and we will be adding it to our fleet. Seeing products like this at the Show enables us to be early adopters of new ideas. We also bought four Perform 3000 generators on the SDMO stand, which now have Kohler petrol engines that we find very reliable. We saw new products that addressed the four main Health & Safety issues facing hirers and end users, namely work at height, HAV, dust and the environment. TowerLight’s new Wash Rack was impressive, as was Dustcontrol’s AirCube 500 air cleaner, and we made contact with vibration monitoring specialist Reactec for the first time. The Innovation Zone displayed a lot of great ideas, and we saw Indespension’s excellent Trailer Manual there, offering so much information on an often overlooked subject.

business on the Ammann stand.

We bought a

Yanmar SV-08 micro and we are going to buy another Transit from Gordons Ford - we purchased one at last year’s Show and it has proved fantastic. We also bought two Sumner

materials lifts and ordered more equipment from the Hire Supply Company,

including transformers, extension leads and dehumidifiers. We really enjoyed the Show Party on the first evening. We were able to swap ideas with other hirers, and to discuss deals informally with suppliers that we followed up the next day. We are extending our hire shop shortly and we came back with loads of ideas for new equipment.

Jim Longstaff and John Jennings (seated - it’s his age, you know!) of Clements Plant & Tool Hire were typical of the many hirers who came to the Show ready to place orders to replenish their hire fleets.

We came here

looking for mini excavators and bought five Kubota machines from BTE comprising three 1.5 tonne KX36-3s and two 2.5 tonne U25-3s. These will be our first Kubota machines, but we already run more than 100 different items of kit with Kubota engines, so we know their reliability. Current utilisation is such that we will probably expand the fleet again in the near future. We posted 20% improved sales last year and this increase has been due to attention to

customer service and ensuring we can offer what the construction industry needs during these testing times.
