Jason Phats throws birthday party with Brighton tailor Gresham Blake


IT’S NOT OFTEN that you’ll find Mitch Winehouse (yep, Amy’s dad) singing big band numbers before a Fatboy Slim set, or Vanessa wandering backstage while Orbital are smashing out rave classics in their famous torch glasses to a packed dancefloor, but that was the scene when DJmag attended a party to celebrate the first year of Jason Phats Digital Group, a collection of labels from the Phats & Small star. Held in the amazing surroundings of the Engineerium which, while sounding like


something out of a Terry Gilliam film, is actually a working Victorian water pumping station, Jason was joined by local tailor Gresham Blake, himself celebrating ten years of business, while a roll call of local talent done good was on hand to man the decks. With Jason and vocalist Ben Ofoedu taking to the stage to perform their hit ‘Turnaround’, re- released with remixes this spring, DJmag were also waiting in the wings with our shaky-cam to find out what the future holds. www.jasonphats.com
